Sisters are doin' it for themselves!

Just read this article ( about a couple of swans in Boston that locals had dubbed "Romeo & Juliet". They are apparently "mute swans", which are the "lovebirds" of the swan world. They choose a mate and stay a committed couple for the rest of their lives. The only problem with Romeo & Juliet is that both these swans are female, and they just don't seem to be interested in finding a Romeo either. Now, the ABC News article about Juliet & Juliet leads the reader to believe that, if the girl swans had had more males in their lives, they would have chosen a male to create their little family, but I have a feeling that these females, just like most other females of any species, know exactly what they're doing and they know what they want. Besides, as the swan experts say, even if you try to introduce a boy swan into the situation now, he'd just get run off by the girls anyway. You just gotta love Girl (Swan) Power! :-)
